Underpass Flooding

On 09/25/2018, the Creek experienced a deluge. Some say more than 6” fell in a couple hours, overwhelming the underpass drainage. Please see photographs taken by Dee Dee Hakun from her nearby home. One of our residents, Dr. Marv Zimmerman, lost his Subaru car in the flood waters, which rose precipitously and at age 90, he was in peril.  There was another flooded car blocking egress/ingress for some time until both cars were pulled out by tow trucks. At the height of the flood, it rose to the car windows.

Subsequent investigation by Peter Hentschel of the Stony Creek Concerned Citizens: Coastal Vulnerability and Village Planning Group revealed significant unknowns about the age and condition of the underpass catch basin drains.
