Then in the Creek
A late 19th century northern view of the John H. Russell firehouse, complete with fire bell cupola; a bell rung on celebrations, the Fourth of July and, of course, in the event of a Creek fire. One of the gentleman with a signature bowler hat is probably John Russell. Houses probably belonging to the Brainerd family are in the background. Credit Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library archives.
Schooner Tom Beattie. Built in 1884 in Bath, Maine by the Beattie quarry family. Pictured here, probably in the late 1890s, sailing near Wheeler Island in the Thimble Islands.
